Madam a New Exploration

My name is AlwaysInspired and I have craft ADD. LOL I'm always trying something new. I love a challenge. Don't get me wrong, I have my standby things I love, but I like to push the boundaries and try something new. I don't always succeed and sometimes I only try it once, but sometimes the planets align and I do something that makes me smile.
I've played with paper clay and always drool over dolls with paper clay heads. I'm not much of a sculptor, but I like to squish clay as much as the next person. I played around with clay and made this head. I had many ideas for her, but when I started she choose her own identity.
Meet Madam.
Madam Head Shot
My first ever paper clay prim creation! She has a mohair wig with a bit of vintage jewelry adornment. Her clothes are fully removable as well. Lots of lace, ruffs, and a few pearls.Madame French Courtesan
She has a sheer white bustle over her lavender damask dress. Under the white panel on the back of her bodice are hook and eye closures.
Madam Back View
I painted on her shoes with purple metallic acrylic paint and added a bit of lace detail.
Madam's Shoes
Madam has a wired petticoat to give her skirt the right amount of fluff. I used wired ribbon gathered and it worked out wonderfully! Under the underskirt are her little sheer bloomers. If you'd like to see them head on over to flickr! I'm trying to not clog up with tons of pics, but I adore details.
Madam's Wired Underskirt
Overall she was a success. Will I do this again? Who knows, but it made me happy while I did it this time so that is all that counts!

Yay she is finished!
I love so many of her details - that petticoat, the peplum on the bodice, her wig - fantastic work!
She looks like Minnie Driver :D

I hope that you DO make more paperclay dolls, and that you continue to push your crafty boundaries all the time.

She is really great! Everything about her works together so great!

How did you attach her head to her body? I have a ton of different clay dolls I've recently made laying around the house, but I haven't really come up with a good way to attach their heads to their fabric bodies...

I designed the body with a wide open neck area. Then I stuffed it leaving it very soft around the neck. I then used a thread to gather the fabric around her. When I sculpted her I made her upper chest and back a bit too so I had something to stuff into the body. I then added a bit of glue to make sure the fabric was going to stay. Worked out great.
